Rock Painting and Water
The sites of rock paintings are found for the most part in the vicinity of water. Some are located directly above the bed of a stream, such as the ‘caves’ or overhangs of Damlıyurt, Kerdemelik and Söğütdere (1-11). Water and rock paintings are apparently to be seen as being causally related. The distribution of the rock paintings around the mountain peak, the site of an ancient rain cult, also points in favour of this.
